“TATSUYA NAKATANI! The legendary Japanese-born percussionist returns to St. Louis.
For years, Tatsuya Nakatani has criss-crossed the United States in his van, sharing his mastery of the bowed gong with musicians across the country. This time, he brings one of his mesmerizing solo sets - followed by a special trio performance featuring Nakatani alongside Damon Smith and myself.
I first saw Nakatani perform at the Lemp Arts Center back in 2005, in a stunning set with Jack Wright and Michel Doneda as the “From Between” trio. That performance was a huge inspiration to me as a young improviser, and I’m honored to bring everything I’ve developed since then into this collaboration.
